The Francis type turbine is mostly suitable for hydropower stations with medium or high head. The Francis type turbines manufactured by the CWTW are compact in structure, reasonable in design, convenience in maintenance and excellent in efficiency. They are in both vertical or horizontal shaft arrangement and could be vastly selected by the hydraulic power stations.

With many years of our own experience and absorbing advanced technology from domestic and abroad sources, the manufacturing and designing level of Francis type turbine in CWTW has been raised to new stages in meeting ever growing requirements of our clients for various hydraulic power resources.

The Francis type turbines manufactured by the CWTW are ranging from 15 to 450m in water head. 0.2 to 200MW in capacity and 0.6 to 4.5m in runner diameter. In the sixties, CWTW manufactured Type Francis type turbine-generator units for Lushuihe hydropower station in Yunnan with 315 m in water head, 15MW per unit in capacity(They are one of the highest water head Francis type units at home at present).

They are still running in good performance after 40 years. Among the high head Francis type unit manufactured by CWTW, the head of Ertaizi Hydropower Project in Jiulong county in Sichuan province is 330m; the head of Shimian Hongyi Hydropower Project in Sichuan province is 312m, all the projects mentioned above are the good examples of Francis type unit for CWTW. While the runner diameter for Khun Dan Prakarnchon Hydropower Project is 1520mm, with 10000kw per unit in capacity, which is ranging the first class for both runner diameter and capacity.
